Arizona Xtreme Desert Triathlon
- The XTERRA POINT SERIES SEASON OPENER
SWIM: ~1600 meters point to point
MOUNTAIN BIKE: ~30 kilometers
RUN: 4.5 Mile Trail run
Location: Butcher Jones Cove, Tonto National Forrest
Price Individual: $75
Price Team: $120
Both courses are fun and challenging! The swim is point to point! From the calm waters of Butcher Jones Cove continuing onto T1 at Key Hole near the Saguaro Lake Marina. The battle begins? the Mountain Bikers will tear off on an aggressive course that will take them into the "Rolls" just above the lake, the Road Triathletes will roll out and around Usery Pass... Last year a CAT 1 cyclist stole the show finishing the bike course around 10 minutes before the first Mountain Biker arrived into T2... We?ll have a prize for the fastest cycle time, both road and mountain! Then the treat! The trail run? It's different from last year because it starts from a different location... I won?t spoil any of the fun with the details, but I will say that it's a 4.5 mile rabbit trail with some of the most spectacular views... it?s still easier than XTERRA Big Bear was last year.
Directions: From Phoenix, take the 202 to HWY 87 (Beeline highway) to the Bush Highway to Saguaro Lake. Second left is the turn-off to Butcher Jones Cove
